Diver in the Storm

2024
Oil on linen
86.5 x 117 x 3.2 cm (34 x 46 x 1.25 in)

“Ah, I feel like my brain is about to explode!” said the painter to the canvas.

The ‘monster mind’ is a tumultuous terrain where thoughts roar like beasts and emotions loom large. It feeds on chaos and fear. Yet within its depths, lies the deep sea diver, calm amidst the storm. He has mastered the art of being present whilst navigating the ever-changing currents of life.

I am still finding my own diver. I know he exists, because I’ve felt the rising bubbles. Yet I still question, ‘Am I driving the monster or is it steering me?

Exhibited at Colab 2 Gallery in White Gum Valley, Western Australia (2026).

Abstract painting with brown scraper strokes with dashes of red, pink and yellow. The whole image looks like a raging beast with a diver's face hidden within the storm
