The Art of Jem Ham

Mountain Sketch No. 6.

2015

Acrylic on wall

3 x 3 m
9.8 x 9.8 ft

On my solo journey up to Everest Base Camp in 2013, I had made it my mission to draw one work of art a day. At an altitude of around 4,500m, Mountain Sketch No. 6 was brought into existence.

The elephant had become a symbol of protection and strength to me as I trekked up the mountain into the unknown. Two years later, it was brought to life in colour on a wall.

Private commission, Fremantle, Western Australia (2015).
